The Martian – Official Trailer

I just got excited about seeing a teaser for The Martian and now, just half an hour after my post, we finally get to see a trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian. The movie comes out later this years on November 25 and will star Matt Damon as Mark Watney and will be directed by Ridley Scott.  For those of you who don’t know, The Martian is Andy Weir’s acclaimed book and tells the story of an american astronaut stranded on Mars after presumed dead by his crew. He need to find ways to survive on the hostile environment of the Red Planet as much as we finds a way to return home. The book is a great read as Mark Watney is quite a likable fellow and also optimistic, considering his situation. I’m convince now that Matt Damon will play this role perfectly. If you haven’t read the book, you still have time to do it before the movie comes out.

Exclusive “Childhood’s End” trailer

After a short teaser for the upcoming series “Childhood’s End, based on the work of Arthur C. Clarke, we now have a full 2 minutes trailer. And I have to say, it looks amazing. People were indeed thrilled about the news last time I posted the first news and there were allot of talks about how they are going to screw things up with this one. As far as this goes, even if they won’t stay true the book, I still want to watch this. I also love the choice for Mike Vogel for the leading role. You can watch the trailer bellow:

“The X-Files” will premiere Jan-24-2016

It’s not news anymore that the beloved sci-fi/paranormal show, The X-Files will return with brand new six episodes season. It’s not going to be a reboot, in the common sense, as the producer Chris Carter stated that the story will follow the events after the tv-series conclusion. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return in their iconic roles as the two FBI agents commissioned to investigate strange phenomena across the United States.

The good news coming from The Fox official website are now even better as we know exactly when the show will premiere. The X-Files is one of my all time favorite so I can’t wait to see what they have in store for this new season. I grew up watching this show and it’s one of the reasons I am afraid of bright lights in the night sky. You can read the announcement bellow:

“The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.”

Under the Dome returns with a two-hour premiere on June 25

Good news for all the fans of Under the Dome out there. The show was not only renewed for a new season, but it will also have a  2 hours premiere this summer, on June 25. Be ready to find out what is going to happen with Barbie and the folks that were inside Chester Mill when the dome came up. Have they really found a way out? I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to find out what’s next.

Under the Dome tells the story of the people from Chester Mill who are trapped inside by a giant transparent dome with no way out. They must deal with the event an at the same time find a way to still keep their humanity intact.

Opinions are divided regarding the CBS hit series Under the Dome. As one who just started the book, I believe I somehow understand both sides. The book is darker (misspelled better), with more vivid characters, but the TV show is great for what it is. A light TV series exploring human behavior under tragic circumstances. Yeah, there’s not much in common between the two, plot related, but I still believe they managed to create an inciting show, with solid characters and good acting and most of all, intense. I always find myself at the edge of my seat at the end of every episode. If you haven’t seen it yet, there is still some time to catch up with it before season 3 starts.

Asimov’s Foundation to become an HBO series

It might be old news for some of you as this was announced in November 2014. I just came across the information and if I missed it for so long, I bet there are others who don’t know it yet.

Isaac Asimov’s Foundation trilogy is being in development by HBO and it’s said to become a TV series. Foundation and HBO in the same sentence sounds great, right?  Add Jonathan Nolan, the mastermind behind Interstellar to this equation, and your brain might just explode out of excitement.

For those of you who do not know, the Foundation Trilogy is Isaac Asimov’s iconic work, often compared with the Dune series. It tells the story of Hari Seldon, a mathematician who has created the science of psychohistory by which it is possible to predict future events by extrapolating from historic trends. He is the one who realizes that The Galactic Empire is imperceptibly declining towards complete destruction. He creates a shadow organisation called the Foundation who’s purpose is to preserve the human civilization.

I’m so thrilled about this and the fact that HBO is behind the project makes me hopeful that they will save no money on the awesome CG this adaptation deserves. No other official news are available at this time but I will make sure to share with you any updates I might come across. Do you think that Foundation is a good choice for a TV series? What other sci-fi book or series do you think could make a perfect TV adaptation?

I can’t wait to see how they decide to present the city-planet of Trantor, the capital of the Galactic Empire. But until then, you can envision it in the art of Gouie, who’s amazing image I used in this post’s cover.

Childhood’s End miniseries coming out in December

While the internet is losing it’s shit over the new Star Wars VII trailer, the first teaser for the upcoming miniseries adaptation of Childhood’s End made it’s way to the web. There is something mysterious about this short video. The voice, the attitude, I mean look at that smile in the end: it’s like he’s thinking “you guys have no idea what’s coming“. It’s spooky. An that’s exactly how I felt when I read the book.

I’m a huge fan of Arthur C. Clarke’s work and especially the mind-fuck that is Childhood’s End. I can’t wait to see how this will develop. The miniseries, created by SyFy, was announced to be premiered sometime in December this year. This teaser sure had the power to raise my expectations. You can see the video bellow:

The Dark Tower closer to becoming a movie

Sony and MRC are teaming to bring Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series on the screen.  Awesome news for all the fans of the books out there: a series of movies to cover the main story of Roland’s journey to The Dark Tower, and a companion TV show to cover, I would presume, the fall of Gilead and the decay of Mid-World.

This is only my personal assumption yet the one that makes more sense. And I find this idea to be brilliant, the conjunction between the big screen and TV. One of the problems Stephen King’s masterpiece encountered on it’s road to become a movie was that the world was too extensive. There was way to much to be put on screen in order to make it coherent. But making an adjacent TV show to explain all that happened in the past, without having to always interrupt the main story with flashbacks, would sure solve this problem. It’s brilliant, really.

But before you die of excitement,  remember that Universal, Warner Bros and HBO, all buried the project eventually, due to it’s colossal costs. Some say this would be way more expensive than the Lord of the Rings movies. It’s a risky gamble for Sony, but if things go right, they might see themselves with a golden goose franchise on their hands. I really hope this time it will become a reality. What do you guys think?
